2018 Allen I. Hyman, MD Lecture

On September 13, 2018, the Department of Anesthesiology hosted Allen I. Hyman, MD Lecture featuring Dr. Jeanine Wiener-Kronish, the Henry Isaiah Dorr Professor of Research and Teaching and Anesthesia Department of Anesthesia, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Hyman, MD Lecture, established by former Chair, Dr. Margaret Wood, highlights prominent figures in the study and practice of anesthesiology, this year's focus "Women in Anesthesiology" addressed the achievements of women in anesthesiology as well as some of the

challenges women still face.

Dr. Jeanine Wiener-Kronish was an undergraduate student at UCLA and then went to Medical School at UCSF and graduated in 1976. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine in 1979. She joined the faculty of Anesthesia at UCSF in 1986 and was a professor in 1996. She became the Vice Chair in 1996 for research and ran a lab from 1986 until 2008. Dr. Wiener-Kronish was elected as a member of the National Academy of Medicine in 2002, was a founding member of the Academy of Anesthesia Mentors, was a senior editor for Anesthesiology for 12 years, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Science by the American Thoracic Society and has been named lecturer over the last two decades. She has worked as the Anesthetist-in-Chief at the Massachusetts General Hospital for over ten years.
