Cardiac Team Achievement: #2 in National Rankings

When patients have successful outcomes after complex cardiac surgery, much of the work that makes successful complex cardiac outcomes possible is invisible. Adult cardiothoracic anesthesiologists and intensivists are often the unsung heroes of cardiac care, helping guide patients safely through some of the most challenging moments of their treatment journey.

This year brings an opportunity to celebrate that work.

In its 2025-26 Best Hospitals rankings, U.S. News & World Report ranked NewYork-Presbyterian the #2 hospital in the nation for Cardiology, Heart & Vascular Surgery, the highest ranking in the institution's history. Notably, this is the first year the specialty rankings no longer included physician reputation surveys, meaning the results are based entirely on measurable performance indicators.

The rankings evaluate hospitals across three key dimensions:

• Outcomes: mortality rates, complication rates, and other clinical outcomes

• Process: patient experience and public transparency

• Structure: patient volume, resources, advanced programs, and accreditations

For the Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia (ACTA) and Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) teams, the recognition reflects years of commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care, improving clinical processes, and building strong partnerships with cardiac surgery colleagues. The trust and collaboration developed across disciplines have helped create an environment where exceptional patient care can thrive.

We congratulate our cardiac and vascular teams--faculty, nurses, staff, and technicians--on this exceptional achievement!

While rankings are only one measure of success, this achievement highlights the collective efforts of the physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, perfusionists, and support staff whose work contributes every day to outstanding outcomes for cardiac patients.
