Dr. Paul Garcia Elected to SNACC Leadership
Paul Garcia, MD, PhD, has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC), a national leadership role that places him on a path to serve as president of the organization in 2029.
SNACC is the leading professional society dedicated to advancing perioperative neuroscience and improving the care of patients with neurologic vulnerability through research, education, training, and advocacy. The society's mission is to safeguard and optimize perioperative neurologic function and brain health while advancing high-quality, patient-centered anesthesia and critical care.
As secretary-treasurer, Dr. Garcia will serve on SNACC's Executive Committee and Board of Directors. His responsibilities will include oversight of the society's financial affairs, meeting records and communications, and leadership of the Finance Committee. The role also includes service on the executive committee of the International Council on Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT).
This appointment marks the beginning of SNACC's leadership succession pathway. Under the society's bylaws, executive officers serve one-year terms and automatically progress through a series of leadership positions. Following successful completion of each term, Dr. Garcia is expected to advance through the leadership ranks and ultimately serve as president of SNACC in 2029.
Dr. Garcia's election comes at an exciting time for SNACC and the broader field of perioperative neuroscience. Among the society's newest educational initiatives is the Intraoperative EEG Interpretation: Basic Course, a physiology-driven program designed to help clinicians move beyond processed EEG indices toward a mechanistic understanding of raw and quantitative EEG and its application to perioperative decision-making.
Currently being piloted in 2026, the course is expected to launch more broadly in 2027 and reflects the growing emphasis on brain health and neurologic outcomes in perioperative care.
