Harrison Lab

Principal Investigator

Neil Harrison discovered the rapid non-genomic actions of steroids "neurosteroids" and later described the existence of specific sites for anesthetics like propofol and isoflurane as allosteric modulators of the GABA-A receptor.

More recently, he has studied how alcohol exerts its effects within the central nervous system (with Guang Yang, PhD), how alternate splicing of the gene AnkG influences excitability in mouse brain (with C Zhang), the measurement of pH in organelles (with D Sulzer) and the biology of virally-encoded ion channels or "viroporins" (with G Abbott).
